Mo Salah signs new Liverpool contract until 2027.

Mohammed Salah has put pen to paper on a new Liverpool deal that will see him remain at Anfield until at least 2027.

Liverpool’s talisman has agreed fresh terms with the Merseyside club which will finally put an end to the whirlwind of rumours surrounding the Egyptians future. Salah, who has less than three months left on his current deal and has been free to speak to foreign clubs about signing a pre-contract, wasn’t exactly shy in letting the world know his wishes earlier in the season when he gave an interview after Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Old Trafford againt Liverpool’s fiercest rivals, Manchester Utd. In the interview, Salah openly stated the ball was in the clubs court and that they knew what he wanted – clearly indicating his desire to stay at Anfield.

That desire now looks to have been satisfied with Liverpool matching what Salah believes he is worth in both wages and contract length. As per Paul Joyce of The Times and contrary to reports, Salah has not taken a pay cut. Given his form over the last 8 seasons and this one in particular, it’s hard to envisage how anyone could have seen this as a realistic proposition. That being said, it didn’t stop some outlets running with the headline online.

Interestingly, Joyce goes on to state that Salah has extended on the same terms as his existing contract which makes him the second highest paid player in the league behind Erling Haaland. Whilst Joyce concedes the exact details surrounding the contract are difficult to distinguish, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, informed a Harvard Business School study that the forward’s new deal agreed in 2022 had opened the door for him and his image rights companies to earn at least 7 figures a week in total income. Based on this, The Times claim Salah’s weekly wage is likely to be closer to half a million pound a week as opposed to the £350kpw touted back in 2022.

Salah will now look to close the season out in style by securing Liverpool’s record equalling 20th league title alongside long term team-mate and club captain Virgil Van Dijk (who is also expected to extend his own contract next week).

The work to securing number 20 will reconvene this weekend against West Ham at Anfield where Salah and co will look to bounce back from their 3-2 defeat at Fulham.

Salah sat on his thrown at Anfield after signing his new contract.
